I have some that do some that don't . My Matthew has it, his mother didn't but her mother did. His grandmothers sister had it. You can't tell just from looking at them which one has the short hair undercoat.
Why some do and some don't, that I don't know. Just slightly different coats I guess just as some yorkies can be soft coated some are the true silk and some are even kind of a harsh coat.
