That is actually why I never wanted a dog. I didn't want to get attached and love it and then have something happen to it. I was so torn when Roxie was offered to me. I didn't know if I wanted to go down that road. I now have a fierce love for my little dog, and I do think about what will happen someday when she isn't around anymore. I also check on her to make sure she is breathing and ok. I sometimes get really mad at myself for allowing this attachment to happen when I swore I wouldn't.
Who knew that having a pet would involve such complicated emotions?
