I used to get those thoughts about my kids from time-to-time, mostly when they were under someone else's control, like a play date. (Do you have kids?)

I have thought about it, to a much lesser degree than you. Charlie is only 5 months old and I love him to pieces. But on occasion I'll have an odd thought, like what would I do, would I get another dog, etc.

I think it's somewhat normal to have these thoughts on a rare occasion. And if it's at your "emotional" time, it's even more understandable. But if it's more than that, then it might be a little extreme.
