While this may be what you do i would not recommend anyone else doing this with any breed puppy. Biting can be fixing by other methods that do not involve hitting. Even though your actually hitting your hand, your dog is still feeling the smack. I think its confusing for the puppy because your offering him your hand then if he bites it you use that same hand to grab him and smack it creating a loud noise and a little bump against his muzzle which scares him, and then you offer him the hand again. it may end up making him hand shy and afraid of your hands instead.

Positive re-enforcement training and ignoring bad behavior is a better more humane training method.
