I don't believe it has anything with male or female. I think it has something to do with them sensing that someone in the house is not as keen on the whole puppy/dog thing as the others. That is when they plan their sneak attack. They do everything in their power to break that person by making them feel as they are the preferred human. When they sit in that person's lap, they have such a look of accomplishment on their little faces. LOL
