My thoughts exactly. In the mean time you can rinse his eye out several times a day with plain natural tears. Make sure it's just plain and nothing that says for allergies or gets the red out as those can damage his eye and are Not made for dogs. Also I would get him to a vet ASAP as he could have an upper respiratory infection and if so can turn into pneumonia fast.
