I have to admit, having my boys in full coat makes home grooming a little easier. Shorter hairstyles may take a little more practice and artistry.
Even if you use a groomer, start working with your pup from day one getting him accustomed to being touched on the paws, ears, head, and so on. Train him to sit still for brushing and daily maintenance grooming. Your breeder should already be doing this, and you should keep it up. |
Excellent advice.Drying cages should be DESTROYED AND BANNED!! I don't even think that some groomers are aware of their potenial danger.
If you can't groom him yourself then I would suggest trying to find a groomer that will let you stay and watch. They will try to talk you out of it by saying that the dog will be nervous and won't focus on them etc. but if you are calm while you watch then your puppy will be calm too. If they protest maybe you could offer paying more (more money is worth your peace of mind) in my opinion. Finally, there are mobile groomers who come to you and just focus on your dog. Many of them will let you come inside. I wish you the best of luck!
