Thanks for all of the feedback! I forgot to mention this, but I do have petunias and geraniums. Last year, they did fine, I even had to cut them back a little during the summer. The containers that I have actually fit (concave) on the railings of my deck. They're not really deep, but deep enough...for normal weather.
I may pick up some lantanas today from Home Depot. This will be my forth and final effort.
