Which lens is on the camera now, btw? Are you shooting in full automatic? That might be the issue right there. If you look at your other shooting options, you could play around and try "close-up" or "landscape" etcetera, depending upon what you're shooting.
I pretty much always shoot in Aperture-priority mode, it's my favorite.
