I know people who have gotten poorly bred dogs who are very healthy and live a good, long life. I also know people who have poorly bred dogs who have tons of health issues as they age.

It can be many years before those genetic time bombs go off or they may not go off at all. I adopted Lady when she was 4.5 years old. She was perfectly healthy except she had seizures. From about age 6-8 she really feel apart. She developed diabetes, arthritis, allergies, and hypothyroidism! I just about went broke paying vet bills. She is now 14.5 years old so she has lived a long life, but it has been a very costly life!

I would try not to worry about what the future may bring. Just be proactive and feed him the best food possible, get regular vet checkups w/bloodwork and make sure to put money away every month in a separate savings account so it is there in case you have a big or unexpected vet bill.
