A dog with a colapsed trachea makes a very distinct "honking" sound when it coughs. It sounds similar to "whooping cough" that humans can get.
There is a sticky or thread on here that shows the three types of coughs and a dog performing each one so you can hear what it sounds like.
One of them is a reverse sneeze, one is a collapsed trachea and the other is a kennel cough. I'm sure if you searched on here you could find it.
