We encourage our girls to go outside through the doggie door.....but we also have a pad down in the back part of the house and one by each door in the front of the house.....for when we are not there and the doggie door is closed or if it is an "emergency" and they can not wait to go outside. It works for us.....the only thing we have learned is if you try to pick one of them up and do away with that option....we still find accidents where the pad was taken up from. Good luck!
