My Pixie was just diagnosed with this and had surgery last wednesday. It is where there knee pops in and out of the groove. They grade them Grade 1-4 with 4 being the worst. It is pretty common in small breed dogs. One of mine has grade 4 and it doesn't seem to bother her so we opted not to do surgery. Pixie's came on suddenly and she was having trouble walking so we did the surgery. I am starting to think I should have waited to see if it got better with rest. The surgery is very rough on them and they need to be confined to a crate for 6 weeks. It is also very expensive. It's best to not let them jump on and off furniture, don't let them get overweight and give them glucosamine supplements. I hope your little one can avoid surgery.
