Diatomacious Earth is the safest. However, I usually don't allow my girls to be compromised and have an x-pen set up that and completely line that area with pee-pads. Once the pups are born, I keep the x-pen set up by the whelping area.....never allowing my girl in the same area my other dogs are in.....I attempt to keep her as clean and sanitary as possible. Always wiping her genital area, breasts and feet before putting her back in with her pups.
