Best to take a fecal sample to vet, as different types of worms require different meds. I personally would use the over the counter meds. It is important to get the right stuff in the right dose for her weight.

My pups have had tapeworms a couple times from licking fleas, and I think one pill from the vet wiped them out. I even was able to call my regular vet and they prescribed the pill without doing a fecal. As someone else said, they die and dry up quickly, so you might see hard little bits that look like rice where she sleeps.

Relax, it's yucky, but not life threatening to her or anyone else, and is one of the easiest things to treat. Since they are carried by fleas, make sure she is on a flea prevention med.
