Once the worm comes out, it dries up then looks like a grain of uncooked rice. I don't think they survive long once they are out because there is no host. The worms tend to come out when the dog is still which is most likely when they are sleeping. You'll probably see some on her bedding in the morning. This happened to me about a month ago and I rushed both pups to the vet even though only one had symptoms. Now I know even though its really gross, its not an emergency. Even though they are on a preventative, its a fluke that they ingest the one contaminated flea. Max was treated with Drontal Plus; 1 tablet and then 1 more tablet in exactly 3 weeks.
