i just got my new boy rescue and my Sadie was sorta the same way. she barks a lot at other dogs, but eventually goes up and smells at them and tolerates them, she was super shy and anti social at the dog park even with dogs her size. i worried a lot so what we did is start to foster dogs. we had a chihuahua i wanted to keep, but Sadie hated her so much. so we didn't foster for awhile and then found the most beautiful silky male in rescue. we met at petsmart on neutral ground which is super important and spent about an hour watching them play in the training coral. they didn't want to kill each other and they seemed to be ok in close quarters so we took him hope hoping it would work. after about a week they were cuddling up together. i think the best thing is to spend plenty of time outside the home together until they warm up and then go for it, make sure you have an out clause in case they never do get along, but try it out if you can and see what happens. dogs are extremely adaptive when they are made to, but you don't want to put out the house dog with a newbie. good luck, will pray it works and hope that they do become snuggle buddies like mine did. it takes the right personality and the right match, but when you find one that works it's bliss.
