Callie was having bad skin allergy brake outs starting last year and they gave me hydroxyzine for the itching but I had to keep in eye on her skin to make sure the little bumps she would get weren't turning very bad because then it became a skin infection (from her scratching) and she had to have antibiotics. We also had to go on a special diet to rule out that it wasn't a food allergy. She hasn't been to bad this year but shes now having watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing so the vet told us to use benadryl for that but her skins been pretty good (I do a little check if I see her scratching and I check very good before every bath). I bathe her once a week with pet head feeling flaky shampoo and that gets any pollen or allergins off her skin and hair and the shampoo keeps her from getting itchy. But it is very very important to keep an eye on the skin to make sure they dont get a skin infection. When shes having a bad itchy day and the meds are not working or dont seem to be wworking I keep a tank top on her so she cant scratch anything open (normally the ac makes her cold anyway so this works ok for us).
