I guess it's human nature to feed "strays", but I don't think I would want to feed a gator during mating season who was using my swimming pool for his love nest.
When I was young we used to camp in the Ocala National Forrest in central Florida. The campground had a dock that ended where the spring was. There were lots of alligators living in the marshes, but one in particular would come out each evening and swim under the dock and wait for people to toss marshmallows to him. We watched Pete grow from a hatchling to a 6' -7' gator. Actually it was interesting watching him swim around with his mouth open waiting for his treat. Years later I heard that Ole Pete was relocated down the spring run to a more isolated area to prevent any problems.
