Is there a location away from the door where you can keep them?
I keep mine in my bedroom because I know they will bark if they hear things at the door... my bedroom is the room furthest back in the apartment so they cant really hear much of anything from there.
Also give them plenty of things to entertain themselves, filled kongs, toys.
Leave the tv or music on to help drown outside sounds.
