There are many people here who have left the face longer, shaved the back/belly, and then left some leg feathers. I agree with you that it depends on the dog what will look good. My Teddy is so skinny that he would look ridiculous with short hair.
Peeing on the belly -- trimming the 'pee string' just right usually eliminates that problem. Getting it just right is the hard part, lol. Max lifts his leg outside and sometimes tips over so far that he hits his hair, grrr.
If you buy the ISINIS brush, keep in mind that you don't need to dig into the skin with it.
