Try some "white noise" to cover up the sound of the brush. A noisy bathroom exhaust fan, a regular fan, television, radio.
I usually brush/comb my boys in a room where the background sound of the furnace fan drowns out the noise. When I tried brushing once in my super quiet bedroom, the sound of the brush and comb bothered me.
