That's a good sign that he went potty. It might take him a day or so to poop since he didn't eat prior to the surgery. They really do bounce back quickly so he will be ready to go long before he should be. When it is time to poop he will poop. Don't worry yourself too much. If he is eating and drinking what goes in must go out.

You could try a baby onsie on him instead of the cone. Do you have an Xpen that you could use? I've heard of others even buying one used at a resale shop. That way he can move around a little more but still be confined.
