Default How much exercise does a little Yorkie need?

I have a 7 month old, male yorkie. Knox weighs in at exactly four pounds. Knox has two gears, wide open and comatose. I take him for a walk each night around the subdivision. I'd say it's a ten to fifteen minute jaunt. It's probably about a mile. He's always excited to go, but the weather here in Tennessee has been smoldering the past few days, and last night he seemed to overheat, even though I keep his fur trimmed short. After our walk, he lapped up some water and slept on the cool leather couch in the air conditioning the rest of the night.

Knox will overexert himself if I'm not careful with him. My GF has a yorkie the same age but three pounds heavier. Knox is far more energetic and will wrestle with him relentlessly. He will then crash extremely hard for a long time when they are separated. He doesn't know when enough is enough.

I suppose every dog is different, and you just have to keep a close watch on them, but sometimes I feel like it's best to leave Knox in the house so he can catch up on his rest. We lead a pretty active lifestyle. He goes to the pool several times a week, where he swims like a fish, and will actually enter the water and swim to me on his own. He goes to the doggie park. He has two playmates who visit. He goes fishing with his grandpa, etc...

I would just like to hear other people talk about how much exercise their yorkies get.

By the way, I feed Knox Blue Buffalo puppy food, the chicken and rice formula. I was told by a Blue Buff representative at a local pet store to avoid the Wilderness line until he is older and to avoid it altogether if his isn't active. Since we are so active, I think I'll switch him to Taste of the Wild once he turns one year old. Taste of the Wild is so high in protein it might be a bad choice for a youngster like Knox. I can tell Knox is getting tired of the Blue Buff puppy formula though. He seems to sift through it and spit out the life source bits. I have about a half a bag left so I may start mixing it with TOTW just to see if he likes it.
