Is it your Yorkie that has the allergies? Velvet also so had bad allergies and when they really get bad I have to give her meds with steroids, but she blows up like a balloon and craves food like crazy, so she gains weight and that makes it harder for her to walk and get up and down. here is alot of info i wrote on allergies on this link - sounds like you are talking about prednisone as my dog had more side effects on prednisone than temarilp which has prednisolone which is broken down pred. Also when doing steroids best to do every other day so adrenals can work normally on off days so safer

In regards to arthritis you may want to look into dasuquin as it is like cosequin but with msm for pain relief. Many see great results on Cosequin for LP so you may want to ask vet about that and if you needed added pain relief then you can step it up to Dasuquin.
