There is no one right %.
Some think high protein can cause kidney and liver problems, so they won't do it at all. Some think it is fine as long as the dog doesn't have kidney or liver problems currently.

I like low to moderate protein. That's what I'm comfortable with. That said, I've never seen proof that high protein causes disease.
