Pancreatitis Hello, I am so sorry to hear your little one is sick. I had a little boy for 18 yrs and once we had a home sitter come in while we went on vacation for two weeks. After a lot of reference checking she seemed to be the right one to stay with my little Ferdie. Well ,when we returned from vacation she happened to be outside walking him when we pulled up, he acted as if he knew who we were but could of cared less,(not him ) once she left he still was laying around action, not right. I picked him up,he was acting lethargic, then he vomited a few times (yellow bile ) I called the women that watched him ,she said he was acting like that since yesterday.I ask her did he eat anything different she said oh yea Saturday (4 days before) I made chili and I gave him the "juice" from the cooked ground beef and then he ate a big bowl of chili with me. I thought I would die, What you feed him the fat from g.b. and also chili? she said very proudly yea! I said now I know whats wrong. I ran to the vet, after blood work yes Pancretitis. The vomiting yellow is from him not eating, He was very sick the vet said we will be very lucky if he pulls this ,Thank goodness he did. The symptoms you are describing sound like pancreatitis but eating a hot dog may of upset his system more than pancreatitis. The vet said no fat anything. I had to watch him closely for the rest of his life. When they get it then it is very easy to get it again. He got it 3 times in his 18 yrs. The last time, he got it, the vet said no food by mouth just water, for 24 hrs give the system a break. Then rice and Ground beef. She said that we could not even cook or eat in the house because the smell of food would get his pancreas working and it needs to rest. They put him on antibiotics and in about a week he was fine. I would be very surprised if it is panceatitis with just a hot dog. But it is possible. Hopefully a stomach upset. The yellow bile is because he has no food in his tummy, If he is eating maybe a teaspoon at a time of rice and g.b.,If he is not drinking Emergency vet is where you need to go. If it has been longer then about 12 hrs. They will need to do sub-q fluids, asap.If he is drinking water then I would call the vet in the morning. I hope he is better by the morning and maybe a call to the vet to see what ther say is what I would do. I think he will be fine. Good Luck. Brenda, Jackie, Sadie, Rosie, Julie, and Romeo |
