My Bogey had the same condition and he did fine with her neuter. I had both my boys done together and to tell you the truth I didn't see any difference between how Bogey and Doodlebug acted afterward. I was also told that his surgery would be more extensive but once the vet made his incision he was able to locate the undescended testes through just one incision. So you actually might get luck like we did.
I also know that there are plenty of other members that had the same issue as your little guy and they did very well too.
