Embarassed Neutering with an undescended testicle

Hello!

I have a 23 week old Yorkie that is getting neutered tomorrow. I took him for the physical exam yesterday and the vet could only feel one of his testicles. She explained to me that the other one was in his abdomen so the surgery would require two incisions. I'm so emotional about all this. I honestly was having my doubts about having him neutered at all because I worry so much about him. He is 3.9 pounds. At the vet, they told me that isn't a problem and that he'll be fine but I still can't help worrying. Then when I found out it'd be a little more complicated due to the undescended testicle I panicked even more. What do you guys think, I should go forward with the surgery? I trust this vet very much because I went to high school with her so I feel a little more calm that she'll be doing the surgery. I considered waiting but I was told that he'd start marking and that it's best to do it by 6 months. I just want to know others opinions who have more experience. This is my first puppy ever and I absolutely adore him and just want him to be fine. I don't want to put him in any danger but everyone tells me neutering is the best thing and I was also told that the undescended testicle could later on become cancerous.

Please give me your opinions. Do you think the recovery will be long? Anyone whose puppy had same surgery? I feel so helpless having to leave him, he's so attached to me. I have to drop him off at 8am and pick him up around 5pm.

Thank you for your help!

Debbie
