We had that same issue with Charlie when he was about the same age. I do think he was confused by the potty pad vs. outside. So we started walking him right after he ate his dinner. We would just keep walking and eventually he just had to go potty. I still remember the first time he pottied on a walk. Our neighbors must've thought I was crazy because I literally jump up and down and cheered! Then we gave him a treat. THAT really caught on! Now he potties on everything on our walks (and then looks up for his treat -- my husband will say "Pay the man!").
It seemed to take a long time for Charlie too, but once he caught on, he had it down pat. I think it just sometimes takes a little longer, but we were able to cross traing on both grass and potty pads. |
