I've seen a ton in my History classes, or I've been assigned a few for out of class viewing. There are a few that I just loved so much, but I think the content isn't for everyone.
The Atomic Cafe is a unique documentary with no voice over and no additional footage other than what was available in the 1950's post WWII. It was amazing. There is also this interview with an airline pilot, although at the moment I can't remember the title. That man saved so many lives and the story just makes your jaw drop. My brother is an aerospace engineer so the fact that it was about planes really sucked me in. There was also this interview with a mob lawyer. It was another jaw dropper.
Oh, and although these aren't straight up documentaries, I love all the black and white films of the 50's. You can learn so much about life back then. One of my professors brought in an I Love Lucy episode with all it's original commercials. There are so many others I've seen, but I have to look at my old syllabus to remember all the titles.
