Yes, sounds almost identical to something "one" of my babies did, but couldn't figure which one.
My baby boy use to have several bad dreams and now it's dropped off to almost never now... thank God.
It was obvious he wasn't having a good dream.
When he started whining or crying in his sleep, I would keep calling his name softly to louder until he woke. I didn't want to startle him to awake, so I did it softly at first. Never knew why he did it, but I always comforted him after the dream.
Maybe your baby will quit someday too? Hopefully.
