With the battery back-up ones, even if you kill the power, the alarm will still sound because of the battery. Only way to quiet them all is to remove the battery, and disconnect the alarm from the power source. Or, just change the alarms at 5 years and the battery every year. Usually you will never have a problem with the wiring, but an Alarm can go bad anytime. I have had news ones not work right.....
