When first home, we used an Xpen, which Chloe quickly learned to jump over. An expensive experiment that I returned! We evolved in to a simple $20 wooden ( not a good idea for the chewers ) baby gate from Wal-Mart stretched across the doorway of her room. It worked fine until we came home from work one day only to have her greet us at the door? We raised it a bit thinking she wouldn't be able to get over it and she weasled her way under it. The lasting solution that has worked so far...we have 2 gates...one on top of the other in the doorway. It's worked beautifully! She has her own "bedroom" and is able to see in and out without the confinement of the door being closed. Luckily for us, it's been a cheap alternative.
 Good luck!
