That is what I have always heard, but it could be an internet rumor.
the Heartgard site does say if the whole dose is not accepted, redosing is recommeneded. And I think some of these companies will pay for treatment if the dog is on the recommended dose and tested annually. That probably would hold true if the owner is splitting the dose. But when in doubt, ask Merial.
