One of mine has had the reverse sneezing before, but it came about more when he exerted himself. I don't recall him waking up like that.
I have an older Lab with a heart murmur, and the vet has warned me to watch for him coughing when he wakes up, but it's not a cough likely to be confused with the honking of reverse sneezing.
