I hope not, I had places in my yard where the dogs were digging, I think for worms. I tried vinegar (killed grass), tobasco, pepper, and powdered cayenne pepper. None of that seemed to hurt the dogs. Didn't stop them either, I think I just flavored the dirt for them.

I heard somewhere that you could soak a collar or leash in Listerine and let it dry and that would discourage their chewing on them. BUT, I don't know whether that is safe to do either.
