Hmmm....so, she's never itched like this before this surgery/visit to the vet? It could be hormonal changes, and so it may change as she adjusts to this. It could also very well be related to the new conditioner you used right before the spay.
Why was she on Benadryl? And this was started after or before the spay? I'm not clear on this point. If the vet recommended the Ben. after the spay, due to her itching, then this makes sense in terms of the timeline (but doesn't yet exactly explain the cause). I would keep giving the Benadryl since she is getting relief from it - of course, you have to give it more than once a day as it has a short 1/2-life.
