This happens to a lot of people, and I know this is one of my weaknesses as well. I know that I can't go to someone's house and look at the dogs and say "goodbye," especially if I felt like they were actually in a bad environment. I try to warn people if they know that this is true of themselves, to decide on the breeder over the phone and through emails. Once you see a cute puppy, few people have the strength to walk away. So many people see this as "rescuing" a dog, but it's really encouraging the breeder to produce more. You might also want to keep in mind rescues, if you ever want another dog, they have many that are in dire need of a good home, and most have been vet checked so you are aware of any problems they have. I have to say, you sound like a wonderful dog owner, and I'm thrilled that you are happy with your little guy.
