Default Low Cal snacks

OK guys! I need suggestions here.
DH refuses to stop feeding the furbutts part of his dinner and now Adie is getting heavy. Skeeter is just plain fat and we need to keep Gracie lean to keep pressure off her back leg (pins and rod).

Sooooooo I have decided to set a bowl of something they can eat next to dh's plate so he can give them that instead of part of HIS fattening food. Good idea? Easier said than done I fear.

What should go into said bowl? I am thinking carrots but what else? He will give them each two - three bites so I need really low low cal. They have Blue Buffalo for small breeds available between 7AM and 5PM all day so they shouldn't be hunger. Whatever I put in that bowl had better be delicious or he will not give it to them!
