How many of you read
Where the Red Fern Grows? Even though it's sad, I have to say it's my all time favorite children's book. And even though both of these (Old Yeller included) deal with death, they both show that their lives were important even though they were dogs. That's an important lesson in my opinion. Especially today when many people seem to think of pets as "easily replaceable". There will never be another dog like Old Yeller or others like Little Ann and Old Dan. So, it's a celebration of the relationship between man (or woman) and dogs.
