 When I got pricing for spay and neutering my two dogs, pre op bloodwork was mentioned as extra and no explanation what this would be for. It is optional.
 
 I also have the choice of laser surgery versus the traditional surgery. I know laser surgery for humans is a easier and shorter recovery/healing.

  Kitties are different from yorkshire terriers. Yorkies are prone to a few health problems, liver shunt being one of them. The liver is the organ that processes everything, and if a yorkie doesn't have a healthy liver, putting them under is extremely dangerous. The pre-op blood work lets you know whether or not the liver is healthy enough to handle the anesthesia. It's an extra precaution to give yorkie moms and dads peace of mind. I would do pre-op blood work before every needed surgery.
