Mine will do this too. She is very well trained but LOVES people so much she just cannot help herself. Yorkies are terriers, i think we tend to forget that. So if they see something they love (people, squirrels, chimpmunks, rabbits), they are gonna run after them. Morgan has gotten better with this but i have to be very attentive to her when she's off leash. even then she sometimes tunes me out. i don't have a fenced in backyard either and i take her outside to potty off leash. I always check the yard first to make sure there aren't any critters in sight or neighbors. then i let her out. I watch her ears and her body posture. I can tell when she's starting to zone in on something so as soon as i notice it i'll clap or give a short sharp yell (oi!, hey, att) to get her attention off that object and back to potty business. its been a while since she's taken off on me now but i still know i'll never be able to let me guard down when she's off leash, and i know i'll never let her off leash anywhere but our own backyard.
