I put the bedding back in her crate yesterday afternoon and will ensure to keep something comfy for her in the crate at all times. I will continue with crating at night for now and have her crate in her xpen during the day..that way she can go lay down in her comfy bedding. Will have potty pads, toys and water laid out in the pen for her too. Will let you know how things are in a couple of weeks.

That is good news. Don't worry, a piddle pad trained dog can be trained to eventually go outdoors only. (ETA: my guys are trained for both)
The breeder/exhibitors here say that a pad trained pup can be outdoor trained later, but a pup that is outdoor trained from the beginning is difficult to teach to use a pad. Having a little dog that knows how to use the pad can be helpful in certain situations later in life.
