However, your pup should learn some level of independence. You could leave him home in the morning for example, and then go get him at lunch... or leave him at home while you do other things at night, or on the weekends. Since he is so used to being with you and being destructive when you are gone, you should slowly work up the time he is left alone and I agree with maximo on the crate issue.

Armani Man makes a great suggestion of starting out with short periods of separation and gradually increasing the length of time.
Frankly, I wish that I had given my Max more independence and made him spend more time alone. Instead, he is always with me or his grandpa. At most, he spends a grand total of 2 hours alone with his brother, sometimes.
He is such a good boy, and it's difficult to explain, but I think some independence is essential.
