Sorry I have had many mite scrapings on dee dee and from a holistic vet, a dermatologist and a vet and not one of them did it from a fecal so this is absolutely ridiculous. Also a dermatologist goes to school for skin issues much longer than a vet and she will probably laugh when i call her about this.

Also any time a dog is having itching issues it is one of the first things a vet and dermatologist check and dogs with poor immune systems like dd are checked periodically as well as demodex takes over on a dog with a poor immune system and why the dermatologist wanted to rule this out due to her issues with staph infection

and if what you claim to be true why did not one of them ever mention a fecal for demodex for my dee dee or my friends dog sophie that has been battling demodex for years?

I guess we will all have to agree to disagree AGAIN
Wait, I'm not saying that fecals are a generally accepted way of diagnosing demo. I'm saying eggs can be seen (when doing a fecal for something unrelated) and alert the vet to a potential issue. When actually wanting a diagnosis and thinking about treating it, then yes, skin scrapings are done. Apparently some vets (i.e. Rachel's) are okay with diagnosing on a stool sample alone and I don't have any comments on that. I can say that Ellie's vet scrapes when concerned even if eggs are seen in a fecal.
