i have started to train her by making her calm down and be peaceful before i give her anything she wants ... she has to sit and be calm before i let her out of her pen, before she can come up on the couch to lay with me, before she can eat, and before she goes outside....
i think that if i pet and reward her while she's acting that way, it will only reinforce the behavior, which i want to stop.... so i only pet her and play with her AFTER she has become calm... i just started this, so i don't know the results yet, but i'm giving it a shot!! |
I agree with you. Reinforcing the negative activity keeps them doing it. Calming them down is a great idea. I think it also reinforces the fact that you are the leader of the pack. Good luck with the training!
