that's more or less what i meant. sorry i know 64 isn't OLD for some people. i think age depends on their attitude, health, and overall ability to handle life without tiring. some 64 year olds are no different than 20 year olds and some are dealing with a lot of health issues that make them seem older.

anyways, an older dog might be a better choice and the OP might want to make sure that his mom even wants a dog to begin with. i never saw that in the thread.
