I definitely would get it re-xrayed in a 1-2 weeks.  I agree with the above posts. The 'pop' you heard was probably the ligament tearing from the bone. It is called an avulsion fracture. There isn't much you do for it and it is usually treated like a sprain but I would follow up with your primary care doctor in a week or so. When I see patients in the ER, I have them take Ibuprofen for 5-7 days, ice, rest, elevate, and pain pills if needed. I always have my patients follow up with their doctor for further evaluation and possible referral to ortho. You will probably always have problems with that ankle because now it is fragile. If it is swollen on the inside of your ankle, you hurt your deltoid ligament. If it is swollen and painful on the outside of your ankle which is most common, it is probably your anterior talofibular ligament. Just be sure and stay off of it for a couple of weeks and ice, ice, ice! Good luck!
