what kind of brush have you been using and how old is your yorkie?
I recommend a Madan pin brush or Chris Christensen pin brush for silky coats, followed by a stainless steel comb. For cotton coats i recommend a Chris Chrsitensen slicker brush, followed by a stainless steel comb. some cotton coats can be brush with a pin brush but you really need to make sure you get down to the skin with the comb to ensue you are getting all the tangles and mats.
